Children and Adults
by Karen Sarnecki

A child needs guidance, to show them the way.
With the joy and strength to embrace the next day.

A child needs no ridicule, belligerence, shame, or pain.
Of those things, what would any child have to gain.

A child is not a mini adult, with knowledge abound,
but a small person in which inquisitiveness is found.

Do we guide them and help them do as well as they can,
or tell them to be the best, upon our demand?

Do we help or hinder in their growth and their needs?
As adults, are we examples in our thoughts, words, and deeds?

We cannot be perfect, nor is that expected,
but a child must be first and not be neglected.

We are a busy society with much at stake.
But from our children, their childhood we must not take.

A child will mimic what they have seen and heard.
They will grasp and hold true, an adults every word.

Do we, as adults, paint life's picture solid and strong?
Or do we just go with the flow, whether right or wrong.

We have not all the answers, but of this I do know,
as the old adage states, we will reap what we sow.

Take a moment to look at those called your own,
and make an extra effort to create a safe, happy home.

You are an important person in this world, so fast-paced;
relax and spend time with the child with whom you were graced.

They are a little "You", so treat them as such,
and don't forget to tell them that you love them very much!
